I Love Austen Week ~ Tag

 

It is not often that I participate in tags, but I simply could not pass this one up, being a devoted Jane Austen lover as I am... 

1.  Which did you experience first, a Jane Austen book or a movie based on one?

Shockingly, I was actually fourteen when I first discovered the delights of Jane Austen!
A friend said I should come over and watch the 2005 film adaption of Pride and Prejudice with her and from that day onward, I have been a devotee of all things Austen.  I recall picking up the book the next day and not being able to put it down!  The rest is history...

2.  What is your favourite Austen book?

 I have read all Austen's books several times each and I am still unable to pick a favourite...I seem to change my mind every few months!  Currently, Mansfield Park is a favourite of mine, but I have loved Emma since first reading it some years ago.
 
3.  Favourite heroine?  Why do you like her best?

I love Elizabeth Bennet...she is witty and ahead of her time!
But, truth to be told, I love all Jane Austen's characters equally with the exception of Lady Susan Vernon!

4.  Favourite hero?  Why do you like him best?

Mr Knightly is probably my favourite hero...he is a true and loyal friend and in the end...a devoted lover.

5.  Do you have a favourite film adaptation of Austen's work?

I adore the 2009 BBC adaption of Emma...it is beautiful in every way from the music to the costumes to the casting of the characters.  In my humble opinion, there could not have been a better choice for Emma than Romola Garai!  

 



 





























6.  Have your Austen tastes changed over the years?  (Did you start out liking one story best, but now like another better?  Did you think she was boring at first, then changed your mind?  Etc.)

As I was only introduced to Austen in my teens, I seem to think my taste has remained pretty much the same.  

7.  Do you have any cool Austen-themed things (mugs, t-shirts, etc)?  (Feel free to share photos if you want.)

Can you believe it, I do not!  Jane Austen is not so well known in South Africa as other countries perhaps and the only thing I have ever seen that was Austen was a Pride & Prejudice colouring book which I would have bought on the spot if my purse hadn't been emptied at the craft store earlier that day!  {{smiles}}  I might just go back and get it...what could be better than a Pride and Prejudice colouring book?  I have almost all the soundtracks from Austen film adaptions on my laptop though, including the one from Becoming Jane which I doubt I could tire of!

8.  If you could ask Jane Austen one question, what would you ask her?

Only one question?  How could I narrow my questions down to only one?

9.  Imagine someone is making a new film of any Jane Austen story you choose, and you get to cast the leads.  What story do you want filmed, and who would you choose to act in it?

A new Mansfield Park adaption would be excellent!  I felt that the most recent BBC adaption was lacking in something...  Fanny Price is so sweet that it would have to be an actress with a shy innocence about her...I will have to ponder that question a little!

An Anne of Green Gables Tag...

I just happened to stumble upon a delightful tag hosted by Miss Evie at Over the Hills and as I am a devoted lover of Anne of Green Gables, I simply had to participate...

And now, without further ado...

 1. How did you get introduced to Anne of Green Gables?  Let me think...  If I recall correctly, it was actually my mom who began reading Anne of Green Gables to my sister and I when we were just little girls...  I loved it from the very beginning and have adored the Anne Girl ever since...

2. Are you more like Anne or Diana? Why?  I would say a little of both as I have a dreamy, romantic side just like Anne, but generally display my more practical side, bringing out the Diana in me.  However, I am sure most folks would agree that I can chatter on about half as much as Anne!  {{Smiles}}

 

3. If Rachel Lynde called your hair as red as carrots how would you react?  I quite like the colour red, especially as generally red hair (according to Mrs Lynde, that is) darkens to an auburn as the years go by, and I think that auburn is a gorgeous hair colour!  {{Smiles}}  Just as a side note...carrots are not red...

4. Gilbert or Morgan Harris?  I have always loved Gilbert Blythe in both the books and the television series, although I find him more heroic in the books to have won the heart of Anne...I really felt sorry for him when Roy Gardner came on the scene...

5. Honest opinion on the third Anne film.  I would say it is simply not my cup of tea.  I am somewhat of a purist when it comes to these things and believe that an accurate adaption is key! 

6. Have you seen the New Anne film?  That would be a no...I hadn't even heard of its existence till now.  I probably won't watch it, as I am a firm lover of the original television series with Megan Follows.

7. What in your own words is a Kindred Spirit?  Someone whom you can be truly honest with and will not think any the less of you...  A person who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and who will always speak the truth.  Someone who is like...or is...a sister...

8.  Movie Gilbert or Green Gables Fables Gilbert?  As I have not seen GGF, I would definitely say the Anne of Green Gables Gilbert.  I think that Jonathan Crombie was the perfect Gilbert and when reading the books now, I cannot separate the two in my mind.

9.  Does anyone know where we can watch Road to Avonlea online?  Oh, I have heard so much about Road to Avonlea...what a delight it would be to watch it!  Anyone?

10. Favourite book cover?  It would be this one, as I am happy to have it on my bookshelf!  {{Smiles}}

 
11. The Films or The Books?  Both!  Megan Follows is just...Anne Shirley...wouldn't you agree?  Both are equally charming in their own right.  I love that Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote such a long, detailed series about Anne and then about her children...I find that when reading any of the Anne of Green Gables books, I slip into a world of blissful imagination and oh!  It is a most delightful place to be...
