in my world ~ august

How cute are these first eggs from our hens...

in my cup

rooibos tea...I drink much less coffee these days.

outside my window

I just chased the hens out the veggie patch...

Our bedroom window looks on to the garden, so I can keep an eye on the chickens from where I sit at the computer.

There is still so much needing to be done to tidy the place up after building our kitchen/living room and bathroom, and I can't wait for some colour in the garden after a winter of greys and browns.

 around the house

Rucus took two weeks off from work to build the new part of our house.

I helped him by passing him bricks, filling gaps in the wall, and being moral support (and bringing him coffee throughout each day).  There is still a lot that needs to be done to finish things off...the shower needs to be built, all the gaps in the wall need to be sealed, and a floor thrown in the bathroom.

But already it feels so homey and cosy!

 watching

Now that I am no longer struggling with morning sickness (which always seemed unbearable in the evenings), we haven't been watching too much...

For awhile we did enjoy the BBC series, Victorian Farm...

 listening to

Francesca Battistelli's Own It and My Paper Heart have been playing on repeat in the mornings while I tackle my chores and the laundry.

I also listen to a lot of hymns...they never fail to bless and uplift the soul.

 reading

In attempt to distract myself from feeling so grim during the first few weeks of pregnancy, I worked my way through several Lynn Austin Novels...  If I Were You, Until We Reach Home and Hidden Places, the latter being my favourite of the three.

I am now reading a Katharine Reay novel, The Printed Letter Book Shop.

I'm not too sure what to make of it yet...

 for the love of words...

I wrote these beautiful quotes by Elizabeth Elliot from her book, Let me be a Woman, down in my journal...

"The beauty of Thy peace shines forth in an ordered life.

A disordered life speaks loudly of disorder in the soul."

"The life of faith is lived, one day at a time, and it has to be lived - not always looked forward to as though the "real" living were around the next corner.

It is today for which we are responsible.

God still owns tomorrow."

"The proof that our relationship is right with God is that we do our best whether we feel inspired not."

"She is doing the thing she was made for.

She is free not by disobeying the rules, but by obeying them."

in the kitchen

I plan to spend a couple days at the forge filming Rucus while he works on a Persian dagger (He's documenting the process on his YouTube channel, and you can watch the first video in the series over here), so I need to have meals prepared ahead of time.

I am so enjoying being in my new kitchen and trying some new recipes.

We are still waiting for our wood stove to arrive - I am eager to bake my own bread (and sweet treats of course) again and be able to roast something in the oven!

 in the garden

With Spring being around the corner, my thoughts are filled with plans and ideas for the garden.  When I'm not preparing beds by adding compost,or tidying up around the garden, I am drawing a simple design in my garden journal and jotting down what I want where.

It is time to start sowing seeds in trays...hoping to get around to this soon.

 out and about

There have been quite a few birthdays celebrations in the valley lately...all the good food and fellowship with dear friends has been wonderful.

Now that I am feeling better, and our house is more or less finished, I feel more able to venture out the front door and visit with a few friends,  which has been so lovely!

 creating

A few weeks ago I ordered some pretty new quilting cotton and sewing supplies online.

I am so enjoying being creative again and working with beautiful material.

I also sewed a messenger bag for Rucus - I'm so pleased with how it came out!

quiet moments

Most mornings after Rucus leaves for work, I brew a myself cup of tea and read something from a favourite blog or Elisabeth Elliot's, Let Me Be a Woman.

Or I spend a few moments writing in my journal...

 thankful for

A husband who loves and cherishes me...

Feeling the first flutterings of movement...

Celebrating a year since moving to the Langkloof (and what a year it has been!).

 hoping

To find some time to paint the kitchen walls the shelves Rucus built for me.

To write more regularly on my blog this month and reply to emails from sweet friends.

 Thinking of

The seeds I'm planning to sow in my garden this year...

Re launching my Etsy shop under a new name...stay tuned.

The bladesmithing course we have coming up at the end of this month which I'll be catering for.

 one of my favourite things

My growing bump...I'm becoming rather attached to it...{{smiles}}

This was such a lovely post. I enjoyed reading about what has kept you busy these days. Your chickens are adorable! I showed the pictures to my husband and suggested we ought to add a black australorp or two to our flock. : )
