Happy Sunday lovely friends…
I hope your weekend has been
a blessed one…
Today we are gathering
together our belongings and packing our suitcases – Nancy and I fly out from
Shanghai On Wednesday.
Please keep us in prayer as
we travel home.
~
In my last post, I shared
that I have been reading Caddie Woodlawn…
This delightful book is
based on the true stories the author’s grandmother told her as a child; stories
about her life as a young pioneer girl growing up in Wisconsin.
I was captured by the tales
of young Caddie, who loved nothing more than running about the countryside with
her brothers, and enjoying the simple things in life…stories before bedtime…a
home cooked meal, and traipsing through fields in search of the juiciest
berries.
Throughout the pages of this
beautifully written book, I was struck by the sweet simplicity their lives
depicted.
If Caddie could but have
caught a glimpse of the future…
I wonder what she would have
thought had she seen the people of the 21st century, rushing about
in a frenzy most of their lives, desperate to keep up with trends and fashions
of modern society, while still endeavoring to look good and in control
through pictures uploaded to social media on a daily basis.
Caddie’s story gave me a
much needed reality check…
Having lived on a farm
before and experienced the sweet joys of leading a simple, gentle life, I can
attest to its blessings.
Now that I live in town and
have grown older, I find I have to make a concerted effort to lead a quiet life
and not become caught up in all the distractions on offer.
In our modern,
technologically advanced world, where everything is a mere click away, it is so
much more difficult to lead a simple life.
And while it is not possible
to return to the time in which Caddie lived, we can still implement many of the
same aspects of her pioneer life into ours.
I know that I am at my
happiest when living gently and simply, pursuing what God has called me to.
Thus, I am purposing to slow
down and live simply, embracing the beauty amidst the mundane and keeping a
quiet heart.
Blessings,
Such a beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteI share these sentiments with you, and also strive to lead a simpler life than our society demands.
Sometimes I am more successful than others, but it is nice to know others are out there doing the same!
Prayers for safe and cozy travels!
Thank you for sharing, Billie Jo - it is always lovely to have you stop by!
DeleteMy friend, this post was so beautifully written, and my how you seem to have taken many words right out of my mouth. This message you shared here, on simple living and finding beauty in such a life, is a passion of my heart...I have placed both Caddie Woodlawn and The Miracle on Maple Hill on reserve at the library and hopefully, they'll be ready for me to pick up on Monday. I love stories that depict simplicity and the joy found in that...and can't wait to read these books that you shared with me! That's the same reason why I love watching shows that take place in the "olden days"...Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea, Little Women, Little House on the Prairie, etc. In fact, this year my mom is reading the Little House books and I'm thinking I may do the same after her. I never read them growing up, but several people have said they found them so rich when they read them in adulthood...I'm thinking they're right!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, thank you for sharing this delightful post...I stand with you in pursuing simple living and a quiet heart and living gently into the beautiful life God have blessed me with! There are gifts in the ordinary and often, they are the best ones!
Lots of love, dear friend ♥ Thinking of you and Nancy as you pack for home!
I haven't read Caddie Woodlawn in years, there is a second one too, Magical Melons originally, not sure what it's title now.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I hear people talk of busyness, I always feel that I have the opposite problem. I take it too slow, too quiet.
It is wonderful that you live a slower life, Livia! Thank you for stopping by...
DeleteI am looking forward to reading the sequel to Caddie Woodlawn soon!
The book sounds very much like something I would love to read. I was mesmerized by Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books for this same reason. As I read them I just wanted to crawl right between the pages and stay there! When you moved to the city I often wondered how you would adjust after reading about your life in the country. We all have to adjust to the changes in out lives. I pray that you find the simplicity you are craving...I'd love to find it too! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh, Debby... Yes! How I would have loved to have been able to live in Laura's world! I love books that inspire simple, gentle living like the Little House books...
DeleteAlways such a treat having you stop by - thank you for your visit!
With love!
Yes, living simply is the best way to live I believe, Kelly-Anne. You are traveling home? I will say a prayer for your safe journey. What an adventure you had and memories you will keep forever. Thank you for reminding me to try to keep a quiet heart, even if the noises in our world our loud sometimes.
ReplyDeleteTake care, dear one.

DeleteKelly-Anne we agree with you about living the simple life. We enjoy quietnesslife. We love to read and enjoy each other's company. As the saying goes "Simple Pleasures Are The Best". We love to read books that we never read as children, "Little House On The Prairie","Anne of Green Gables","Betsy Tacy". Lucy Maud Montgomery has a few other lovely books, the"Patricia", series,"Marigold", ". Emily Moon" series. There are other "Little House" series," "Caroline","Martha" , these are series based on Laura Ingalls' grandmothers. Hope your foot is healing. You and Nancy will be in our prayers for a safe trip home. God Bless you and yours.
